“Most people would have either a current 8 or 9 issue subscription. Instead of now lasting a full year, it will fall short by a couple of months. They’ll still get their 8 or 9 issues that they paid for of course, and we’ll send out a renewal notice when the subscription is getting close to expiring.

It should be noted however, that subscribers can renew at any time between now and when their subscription is due to expire, particularly if they take a fancy to any of the monthly subscription promotions that we advertise in the magazine and on the website. The renewal will automatically kick in when the old sub finishes.

Hello fellow Surfing Mums and Friends,

The wonderful warmer weather has injected some energy into my days. How about you?!

We’ve had a fairly quiet Winter – so I’m looking forward to renewing our monthly Sunday meets. Don’t forget we have a monthly scheduled meet at Bar Beach, which is on the 4th Sunday of each month.

The SMI AGM will be held on our weekend in September – who is coming??? So the next Newcastle meet will be Sunday, 8am, October 24th.

Here’s a small newsletter for the Newcastle branch of Surfing Mums. I trust you also received the SMI newsletter that I sent out earlier.

Two things to note:

1. Surfing Mums Inc AGM – 24th to 26th September at Peregian Beach QLD. It would be great to see some Newcastle mums there.

2. Newcastle Surfing Mums Spring BBQ – Sunday 31st October 11am, at Dixon Park on Ocean Street. Details to follow.

Re: Coastal Information and Policies for the 2010 Federal Election

In the lead up to the 2010 Federal Election, the SCCG wrote to all political parties represented in the Senate requesting details of their policy positions on 6 key coastal management issues:
 
·        Implementing Priority Recommendations from the Managing our Coastal Zone in a Changing Climate: the Time to Act is Now Report;
·        An independent coastal advisory body for Australia;
·        A strategy for managing the impact of climate change on the coastal zone;
·        Funding for Local Government and community coastal programs and initiatives;
·        Public participation in the strategic planning and major development assessment in the coastal zone; and
·        Maintenance of public ownership and public access in the coastal zone.
 
Responses have been provided by the Australian Labor Party and Coalition. Please find these attached. Also attached is the correspondence and supporting background information prepared and sent by the SCCG to each party represented in the Senate.

Hello Nerd appreciators,

We have a really big event coming up in September, and we want to let you know about it early so you can’t say “Oh sorry, if I’d known earlier I wouldn’t have booked a luxury spa day at ‘Up Yours’ Colonic Irrigation.”

See, we are very excited Nerds right now. We have a brand new CD to flog promote offer. It’s called Courage in the Face of Absurdity. So we’re having a gig at the Lass O’Gowrie and we’d roolly like ewes all to come along and make us look popular.

We’ll be supported by Newcastle’s own blurgrass (yes, ‘blur’) specialists The Do-Riders. Their version of Prince’s ‘Kiss’ is something to behold. And they are planning to invade our stage, perhaps even play along on some Nerds songs.

The Lass is a dang fine place. You can sit outside in the sun, your kids can come along, the kitchen will be open (and let’s face it, who can resist a hot chip?) Hell, we don’t even mind if you talk all through our set! Just be there. After all, Nerd is the new black (or is that brown? hmmm, good idea for a song…)

Details below. We’ll be emailing reminders periodically until you all agree to attend. Perhaps we’ll even personally knock on your door. We may or may not be carrying a casserole. [you may have noticed we are really keen to get a good crowd at this one...]
